Chartered professional body for managers and leaders, delivering Chartered Manager status for individuals and accreditation & qualification solutions for university and education partners globally. Representing UK Chartered and professional bodies.
CMI is the professional body for managers and leaders, and the only organisation able to award Chartered Manager status. For 77 years we have existed to inspire managers to become confident, capable leaders.
We currently support a community of over 220,000 members, with around 160,000 studying on a CMI programme or qualification. Present in over 80 countries across the globe with over 20,000 chartered managers.
CMI also provides accreditation solutions to over 900 university and education partners globally, supporting their learners onto the pathway to Chartered status.
Internationally, we work with 78 partners across the APAC and MENA regions. We support 1,400 Chartered Managers outside of the UK, along with around 20% of our membership.
CMI seeks to represent all Chartered and professional bodies on the UK Skills Partnership, and has done so previously by convening research projects and supporting Government-led trade missions.
Chartered and professional bodies represent a significant export opportunity, with the former being a unique British opportunity. These offers capitalise on the United Kingdom’s reputation for ethical business practice and high quality skills and education training.
Dual Accreditation: Dual Accreditation is the process of aligning the learning outcomes of academic degree programmes with those in CMI’s vocational qualifications, to allow for CMI’s vocational qualification to be awarded alongside the academic degree award.
CMI Dual Accreditation gives students a UK recognised professional qualification, access to a suite of professional resources as well as mentoring and networking opportunities and puts them on a pathway to becoming a Chartered Manager.
For our partners, Dual Accreditation boosts employability outcomes, raises academic and institutional profile, increases learner enrichment and supports student recruitment. Our latest research finds:
- 70% of students say CMI accreditation makes them more likely to choose their course
- 9/10 university partners agree that CMI accreditation increases overall student satisfaction
- 87% of students say that CMI accreditation will make them more employable
Many Chartered and professional bodies across the UK employ the accreditation model, as it allows them to offer vocational qualifications to international markets via their existing awarding body powers.

Chartered Manager status: Chartered Manager is a global professional recognition, and the highest status that can be achieved in the Management and Leadership profession.
Distinct from a mandated Charter which is a licence to practice and a formal requirement for some professions, becoming a Chartered Manager through CMI is a demonstration of skills and knowledge, all mapped to our Professional Standard.
Chartered Manager status is available to individuals, and can be preceded by Foundation Chartered Manager status, an award that puts learners on the pathway to the full Chartered award.
Chartered statuses, awarded by British Chartered professional bodies, are a unique British export which build on the UK’s reputation for education and skills excellence.
